Shirwal, a village of historic significance majestically rests on the southern bank of river “Nira”.

This small place that has witnessed the reigns of Adilshah, Nizamshah, Marathas and British Raj in historic times, is rapidly developing into an industrial town. The place is cherished by the historic structures, which includes “kille Subhanmangal” an august citadel built along the riverside by Nizam of Hyderabad through Adilshah. The “Kedareshwara Temple”, “Kedareshwara Baav” and few other structures are classic examples of Ancient Indian Architecture.

This land still preserves the treasure of memories of great people of historic times who dedicated their entire life for protecting their mother land and for welfare of its people. Notable among which are “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj” the brave Maratha King, “Krantisinh Nana Patil” the great freedom warrior and “Savitribai Phule” the pioneer of women’s education in the country and a social reformer. Located 50 kms away towards south of Pune on Pune-Bangalore National Highway No. 4, Shirval is blessed by the neighborhood of beautiful hills of “Sahyadris” and an abundant water of river Nira. With medium rainfall and pleasant and pollution – free weather Shirval offers most suitable atmosphere for the development of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Industries and is an ideal place for students for pursuing their studies.


Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science, unique in its placement on a totally rural background, was established under the auspices of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri in the year 1988. With the establishment of MAFSU the institute was transferred under its control in the year 2001. The institute was basically established to cater to the needs of people in ten districts of Western Maharashtra region. This region of the state is rich in animal husbandry activities and surpasses the other regions of the state in almost all aspects of livestock and poultry industry viz. total livestock and poultry population, milk, meat and egg production. The college was named as Krantisinh Nana Patil College of Veterinary Science to honour the great freedom warrior Krantisinh Nana Patil who established a parallel government against the British regime called `PRATISARKAR` during the freedom struggle of India.

National highway no. 4 to ShirwalShirwal is located at 50 Km distance from Pune on Pune-Bangalore National Highway No. 4. The place is well connected through the bus service of State Transport Corporation. The nearest railway station for Shirwal is Lonand (Pune-Kolhapur-Goa Route) located 27 Km distance from Shirwal. However, it is convenient to travel by rail up to Pune and there onwards by road and the nearest air terminal for Shirwal is Lohgaon Air Port, Pune.
